We might be reciting stories of successful people day in and day out while advocating others but when it comes to ourselves; we envelop ourselves in the same bubble of mediocrity. We think that we are not capable of living a life of abundance.
What are the factors that intercept you from treading ahead with a millionaire mindset? Conditioning- Most of us are conditioned not to take the route less traveled and hence we become a part of the rat-race. Undeniably, our parents and elders care for us and hence they expect us to accomplish what they were not able to. They do not want us to suffer. But such enforced decisions are likely to hit us later in our life, for instance, getting caught under mid-life
crisis, poor relationships, unwanted lifestyle and most importantly missing the ticket to the millionaire world. We are often drummed into finding a suitable job to secure our future. Here, I am reminded of the saying by Tony Gaskins , “If you don’t build your own dream, someone will hire you to help build theirs.” I do not mean to say that jobs are bad. If working as an employee is in the bucket-list of ‘your’ dreams, you should certainly pursue it. The best part is that you still have the option to break-free from the old conditioning. As a matter of fact, today we see a lot of engineers, MBA’s and highly qualified youngsters turning into stand-up comedians, chefs, film actors, life-coaches and so on.
Fear of Failure- Fear of failure or the fear of the unknown is something that resists us from moving forward. This reminds me of an incident from Swami Vivekananda’s life. When Swami Vivekananda was in his mid-twenties, one day while visiting a temple, he was attacked by a troop of monkeys. While he was running away, a monk shouted to him, “Face the brutes.” Vivekananda stopped and looked defiantly at the beasts. To his surprise, they quickly
disappeared. The incident left a deep impression on Vivekananda and later on in his lectures in the United States, he used it as an example to exhort people to face the dangers and challenges of life bravely and not run away from them. We will learn more about this fear in one of the following chapters.
Another classic example is of Thomas Edison. He was determined to enlighten this world but everyone around him, even his teammates thought that it was something foolish and ridiculed him. They all deserted the research but Thomas did not lose hope. He tried and failed. He again tried and again failed. And one day, ‘there was light’.
“I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways things that do not work.” – Thomas Edison You do want it but not bad enough- How bad you want, it is another question that you need to ask yourself. Majority of us just want to reach the destination without actually making much effort. We are not willing to do what it takes. We make full-proof plans and prepare ourselves to take the flight to our dreams but unfortunately, most of us never take off or quit within first
few days. Evidently, dreams do come true if you have the courage to take consistent steps. ‘I am not smart enough’- Do you know there is one person who can either drive you to your millionaire world or can make you a loser? It is YOU. ‘You are what you think.’ Not having faith in oneself is what makes people lose the game before even starting. Besides, there are people, who, when they are on the verge of laying hands on their dream, they start doubting on their capabilities and hence the dream repulses away. The first thing that you need to do is have faith in yourself. You are as much capable as a successful person is.
The next step is to stop comparing yourself with others. You are self-sufficient in your own way. Another important step is to be a positive thinker. You get what you ask for. Even if you are on the right path, if you keep expecting bad things to happen, they will eventually happen. Once you start taking care of these factors, all the doubts about yourself will burn off like deadwood. This program can empower you to unhook yourself from such and many more hurdles that stop you from navigating to your millionaire mindset.
